It's the Legend of Zeld because if ypu think about it the whole story revolves around Zelda where she is the princess and it's her legend. Not every title has to have the name of the character you play with.

Good point Ace, the story does kinda revolve around Zelda I guess I'm just so used to games having the main charters name in the title that it just seems that it should be called THE LEGEND OF LINK.

Well I'm thinking the people who thought of the title are abit smarter than others. They were probably thinking that they would call the main guy Link, and the Legend Of Zelda just for creative effect.
That or maybe if Link failed they would get a new main character...

The only game that you can play as Zelda is that CD-i crap fest. I guess when you think about the title is kinda misleading because then everybody was calling Link Zelda.
